I’m a teacher and our welding students made these and are going to sell them. They are going to add a drip pipe on the bottom and paint them black. I know the price is high but it’s for the kids. They are asking 750
I don’t have outside outlets in my backyard so I can’t get a set up that requires any type of electricity.
Everyone I talk to tells me that they are too expensive for what they are. Figured I’d get y’all’s opinions. Sorry if I should not have posted this kind of question on here.
Side note this would be my first outside pit for my first home I recently bought so if there’s any suggestions I am open to those as well.
Not sure if the sound is off or on. It was originally a video I sent to my kinfolk.

Pardon me for saying, but these pits are very well made and fetch more than $750….easily. Those students did good
Shouldn’t the smoke stack be on the opposite side of firebox to pull heat/smoke across?
Whether too expensive or not, if it were me, i’d look at it as donating money to a good cause and getting a smoker as a thank you. I’d get one
Keep up the great work sir
Do you ship to Idaho? I’d buy one in a heartbeat.
As someone who has fabricated a lot of smokers over the years, I say it’s a good buy. Is it dimensionally perfect, no, but good quality welds and solid material will make for a smoker you can learn to control and enjoy.
Edit to add, I wouldn’t build it for less than $2k and the money is going to the right place and the kids should be proud of outstanding work.
The only real problem I see is that the smoke stack is a good height but too small of pipe. If they can cut that out and redo with a wider stack it would be a bit better. Overall 750 is a very fair price.
Where is the shop/school located? You may find some interested members of the sub
Will last forever
Wow. Love the thick gauge and design. That’s a good price for a buy it for life smoker.
What part of the land are you in? Let’s move some units!
That’s so sick. An offset reverse flow Oklahoma Joe is $750 and this is certainly a longer-lasting and likely better built product
That is a thing of beauty.
Cool! I sold Santa Maria style bbqs in high school.
I’d buy one without reservation. A solid build and a good cause close to home beats a perfectly built one from a random company.
Man I would jump on this all day long! Not only does it look like an extremely solid smoker but you are also helping out students it’s a win-win
What state is your school located in? You may have some people on here interested including myself
That’s marketplace price for used backyard fab job smokers.
The stack MAY be a little small diameter wise but far as metal work goes that’s an easy fix.
+ it’s for the kids
It looks fine. Besides having a larger diameter stack, the build quality is really nice. At $750 it’s a fantastic price. Have your student to home depot to see the quality difference. Give them kudos.
Honestly, if it’s for the kids I wouldn’t hesitate especially if I was one of their teachers. That money would give all the welding students a huge sense of accomplishment plus it looks like you’re getting a good product 👍🏼
Where are you located? I’ll buy 1 for $750.
I’m finally the guy getting all the downvotes? Let’s go!!! Honestly, reading through all the comments just solidifies that I DONT know what I’m talking about. Thank you all who put up some amazing information up I didn’t know any of this.
Where is this?? I’d be interested
Good smoker for a decent price! They will only get better at making them, too! Great job, kiddos!!
Where are these located? I think they’re totally worth $750
I don’t think my wife would let me spend $750 on a smoker, but I’d be tempted.
I would buy this for $750. It might be worth making more of these as a fund raiser.
I think it’s a reverse flow smoker, smoke stack is on the same side as the fire box…I have not used one of these before. I would google search reverse flow smoker vs regular smoker and do some research first.
This is awesome! I’m in secondary education and do everything I can to get kiddos into trade school. Adding “build your own badass pit” to my list of reasons.
Can I buy one?
Guessing these are reverse flow? Just from the short video the smoker looks nice. Good size, proper thick gauge steel, I like the grates, firebox is big and I like the door on it. Only gripe I can find from the little video is that the smoke stack is a small diameter. If you guys fabricated a smoke collector to concentrate the smoke on the grates and built a bigger stack I think it would be a damn good little cooker. It will function fine just how it is just giving you my 2 cents.
I got $800 cash on one right now
Everyone that says “they’re too expensive for what they are” can’t build one with their own two hands.
Tell them to keep overcooking ribs on their clapped out Kmart smoker
750 seems like steal! Especially considering where the money is going
Shouldn’t the smoke stack be on the opposite site of the box?
