Looks like some fresh Bluefin tuna sashimi. What’s an hcol?

If you were in an actual HCOL you’d absolutely not have found this for $22.

Considering I’ve seen 2 pieces of bluefin tuna nigiri be $18 CAD in my area, that bowl being ~~$32 is in line~~ $22 USD is an incredible deal.

Edit: I misunderstood OP saying it was actually 32 as $32 USD in comments when they were saying it was 32 SGD. Makes it an incredible deal for a HCOL area though perhaps not a good one for one comparison if their food/restaurant economics are drastically different than North America. corrected the price

this would’ve easily surpass $50 from where I used to lived …..cough..LA..cough….

Damn that’s a great deal in a hcol area. I used to pay 30-40 back in NY about 10 years ago. These days for something something similar in my area in LA it costs about 40.

See those pieces of otoro? I could get two of those slices as nigiri for ~$24 (USD) where I live. Another HCOL in MT, USA

Nice wasabi amount! I hate getting just a small dab

A fair to even a bargain price for a premium tekka don.

The cheapest place near me served a tuna bowl with some basic yellowfin tuna for 15$. That was like 4 years ago.

    But did it taste fresh?

sashimi is not served in sets of 4, because it is considered a bad luck number. When you see 4s you can know that the cooks have not had the proper japanese cooking training.

Amazing deal. I can barely get a burrito for $20 where I live.

It’s about $3 worth of fish, 50 cents worth of rice and 50 cents of condiments.

But yeah in a rich area $22 sounds about right.

Depends on where you are. In Japan, this is part of a 1200JPY lunch menu if you add pickled radish, a miso soup and green tea. That‘s about 8USD.

  13. I wouldn’t be mad at it, though that seems like a lot of wasabi for that amount of fish and rice.
