Caught a few small macks Favorite recipes?

I tried a little sashimi. Pan seared one (so good) and thinking of making a sauce or curing the rest.

Mackerel is sooo underrated. Oily and delicious.

Did you catch these on a sabiki rig? Just wondering what your favorite way to target them is.

    Thanks!

If you want to cook it, it’s great lightly grilled over charcoal. You could brine it or soak in rice vinegar with a bit of sugar and sake (if you have it) for 20 mins first as well.

I like to either grill or bake them whole just seasoned with salt and pepper (maybe some lemons stuffed into the body) and serve with sauce (usually soy/chili oil/honey or soy/lemon/fresh tomato) or fillet and marinade (i play it by ear but usually soy, honey, sriracha, ginger, garlic, pepper, and rice vinegar or mirin) for 30 min – 1 hour and sear or broil. Delicious with white rice, one of my favorite fish to cook

No offense, but that looks more like bait than a meal to me.

Sashimi mackerel comes with risk of nasty parasites. Better to do shimesaba if you want it rawish.

I love hunting and eating them most that any tuna species. I open them butterfly and I fry them when smaller. Bigger ones in the charcoals. I use only salt and garlic powder for seasoning.
