Does anyone here have experience with using the (Hunsaker Air Diverter)[https://www.hunsakersmokers.com/collections/kettle-upgrades-mods/products/firewall-air-diverter] in place of a slow-n-sear, smoke n sizzle, or the like?
It seems like it would do the same thing (of course, no water pan) and would not require an additional step of foiling the charcoal grate or adding a drip n griddle pan to ensure the air flows through the coals. I just can’t quite tell from the picture how the size of the charcoal area compares. Is it too small?
Interested to hear your thoughts.

looks like less space for charcoal than the sns. You can find exact measurements of the sns in their website
Functionally during cooking I don’t see why it would be much different (other than water pan placement). Also, it’ll save you a decent amount. That being said, there’s two benefits to the SnS which I think are worth it:
1) The SnS being a basket is very convenient. Rather than spending a few minutes collecting charcoal to put into a chimney you can just dump the basket in a few seconds.
2) The griddle pan is optional, which I like. I only using the griddle pan for long smokes to ensure airflow is as optimal as I can get it. Otherwise for most other grilling/smoking I don’t use it because I don’t want to have to clean it. I end up just letting drippings fall to the bottom for the kettle and rotate where I put the basket each cook so that the charcoal burns it off.
Whether the SnS is worth it or not is up to you – it’s mostly a convenience factor. If you wanted to go really inexpensive you could just use bricks and foil.
