Picked this up and I usually avoid store bought sushi, but its costco. Costco 95% of the time at least delivers on a solid decent quality for produce items so I figured i'd give it a go.

Thoughts based on looks before I dig in?

Rice looks very overcooked but fish looks alright. Enjoy! Wish my Costco sold sushi.

  2. Rice looks like it would have the texture of paste.

  3. Heavy-Situation-9346

Would not touch. That rice is ruined

Seems extremely expensive for what it is. Sushi is one of the things I think should never be priced by the pound. Rice is the majority of the weight and it’s dirt cheap.

Rice paste and fish butchered by a 3 fingered idiot is in no way worth $42. The avocado is brown for fuck’s sake.

  6. Night-Fury-dragon

It looks good but it’s not worth $42. It’s extremely overpriced.

Just look at those ingredients. Totally nuts.

Should just be: rice, rice vinegar, sugar, seaweed (includes Kombucha), and fish. But no.

This roll also contains distilled vinegar, sake cake vinegar (made from alcohol with rice and sake cake extract), brown sugar, hydrogenated starch hydrolysate, fermented rice, rice bran oil, soy powder, alcohol, sodium benzoate, horseradish, hydrogenated corn syrup, soy fiber, canola oil, citric acid, artificial flavor, FD&C Yellow #5, Blue #1, acetic acid, DL-malic acid, soybean oil, calcium disodium EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), “natural flavors”, modified tapioca starch, acetic acid, sodium metabisulfite, yeast extract, acacia gum, xanthan gum, milk, cream, salt, carob bean gum, cultures, sesame seeds, and oil.

    Seriously what the fuck?

Im convinced Costco is just a cult of people who have no idea how to shop on a real budget and lie to themselves and say “it’s actually better price than anywhere else.”

The fish looks nice but the rice, not so much. Also that’s a crazy price. You can go get a Chirasha for $30 and have a much better eating experience.

    Rice looks mushy-pasty😑
I assume the roll in the middle has tuna which color looks totally spoiled.

  11. kingkongsdingdong420

Is that 42 us? You can get sit down sushi for similar price.

  12. southsky20

i got that but better from sam’s at 25$ a month ago. Now… with inflation…

Honestly when we do sushi at Costco we only touch the sashimi and that’s if we either have a ton of mouths to feed or want a ton of sushi. At the end of the day, it’s comparable to your mid sushi restaurant but at least rice made at home isn’t the paste of glue.

Honestly Costco has really fallen off. This is the biggest ripoff I have seen recently..

  15. lethalfrost

Sadly their sushi is not it. Any AYCE will be around the same price and much better quality.

  16. Username_Redacted-0

Oof… I’ll pass… wise market has better looking sushi and at half the price…

  17. Miserable_Paper_421

I’d assume the eat by date would be the same a the prepared date ..

  18. No_Try6944

Why is everyone saying it’s overpriced. That seems very reasonable for the amount you’re getting these days

  19. instantpig0101

It looks like they put too much water in the rice and squished it down as hard as possible. When ingredients are as simple as sushi, each part must be done well

There are robots that make rolls, they are called “maki robot” (collectively), these rolls are made by a maki robot. If you pickup those fish those nigiri are probably all identical too and yes there’s a nigiri robot as well. I’m not gonna be that guy and tell everyone robot sushi is bad, but robot sushi for 42 dollars… is bad.

  21. No the rice is all mushy, cold and textures just shite

    even with the sashimi

  22. S2Mackinley

I bought the sashimi and returned it. It smelled BAD. I tried a piece in the car and regretted it. When I brought it in to customer service the girl gagged lol.

  23. Mattyspiced115

I’ve had it before and I suggest you be careful with the ones closest to the wasabi. It’s almost like it marinates in it.

  24. snarkysavage81

The first sushi I ever ate was from a tray from Costco. I want to say we called them sushi rainbows. Back in the 90’s, maybe $10 and different variations of the California roll.

  25. Warm-Tomorrow-6641

The rice does not look good, way too mushy

  26. Costco near me I can get a pound of excellent poke for $20, and then I just make the rice at home. Way better than this.

  27. TheoriesOfEverything

Costco does deliver on a lot of things… I personally wouldn’t pay 40 for that as a packaged product.  Like it’s probably a lot of ingredients on paper for that price for sushi… I just don’t think it’s gonna be good tasting. The rice just looks so wrong. Like my grocer has better looking rice and it still tastes stiff and texture is off, that rice is gonna be…

  28. NWGJulian

    42$?!
man, just buy some fresh fish, a cucumber, a pack of sushi rice, some rice vinegar, nori sheets and a tube of wasabi and make your own plate!

  29. Alternative_Rich_944

You call it a party platter, I call it an overpriced lunch.
