Say what you want about catfish, but Baramee’s version could probably convert a non-believer. Known for its Thai comfort food, Baramee Thai Bistro came through with big, bold flavors for my first visit, serving none other than their Baramee Thai Catfish.

Made with two crispy catfish fillets laid over fresh steamed veggies and drenched in the sweet & spicy sam rod sauce, this dish was giving everything it needed to give—crispy, tender, a lot of heat, a little sweet, and a whole lot of flavor.

I also loved that it was tempura-fried instead of weighed down in a thick batter. The crunch was light and airy, so you actually tasted the catfish. Pair that with the sweet heat of the sauce soaking into the crisp edges and the freshness of the veggies, and every bite had this mix of crunch, tenderness, and a little zing that worked really well together.

Of course, I couldn’t do my Thai without a few rounds of hot sake. And their adorable patio, drenched in natural sunlight, really set the tone, making lunch feel like a special moment.

Baramee Thai Bistro is located at 1810 Baltimore Ave. Kansas City, MO 64108.

Mediterranean cuisine is always a hit for me. Any time, any place, I’ll take it. Pair that with the flow and efficiency of a fast casual restaurant, and you can consider me–a hungry remote worker pulling up with little sister during the lunch rush–ready for a good meal and some patio vibes.

I went with the Meddy’s Main Plate, a generous spread built around your choice of protein, roasted veggies, a bright mixed-herb salad, and a side to round it out. I chose the chicken, then paired it with creamy, tangy hummus served with a mix of warm, pillowy bread and crisp chips, the best of both dipping worlds.

There’s also a bar inside, and since happy hour was running, we grabbed a bottle of wine at 20% off and took it out to the patio. The wine paired perfectly with catching up. Laughing (almost crying) about how fast our kids are growing and how deep my nephew’s voice is getting.

The food hit just as hard: juicy chicken, charred roasted veggies, and hummus so creamy it begged to be scooped up with both the warm bread and the crunchy chips. Add in the patio’s laid-back energy and fresh air, we got exactly what we needed. All the lunch and none of the rush.

Meddy’s has multiple locations in KS and MO. This specific location was at 8636 NE 85th St, Suite H, Kansas City, MO 64157.
