I just found two new favorite sauces, and they’re both only $2.50 each at my local grocery store! The first ingredients of both sauces are Carolina Reapers & Scorpion Peppers, respectively.

My local discount grocery store has a pretty extensive ethnic food section, and these happened to catch my eye as I was walking by. When I saw the price ($2.50), I almost kept walking because I assumed they were full of filler and using “Carolina Reaper”/”Scorpion Pepper” as a marketing gimmick. Hilariously, it’s called “Jamaican Choice,” but it’s made in Costa Rica, and distributed out of New York.

But I was very, very wrong. When I looked at the ingredients, they immediately went into my cart.

    >**Scorpion Pepper**: Scorpion chili pepper, Water, Salt, Acetic acid, Modified cornstarch, Xanthan gum, and Ascorbic acid.

    >**Carolina Reaper**: Carolina reaper chili pepper, water, salt, cane vinegar, sugar, onion, lime, passion fruit, garlic, xanthan gum, and citric acid

Both will knock your fucking socks off.

The Scorpion Pepper sauce is probably my favorite of the two. The heat is strong, but I can easily enjoy a few drops at a time without getting overwhelmed, and the flavor is great. The sauce goes a bit heavy on the thickeners, but the consistency – with small chunks of Scorpion pepper – is near perfect. *Amazing* on breakfast burritos, btw.

The Carolina Reaper sauce is… dangerous. It’s by far the hottest sauce (without extracts) that I’ve bought from a grocery store. The consistency is more like Chipotle Tabasco: a smoothly blended (but thick) vinegar-based sauce. I admittedly have a hard time eating more than a drop at a time, so I expect the bottle to last quite a while.

I’ve already bought backup bottles of both in case they go out of stock!

The scorpion one is my new daily driver. Shit is good!

  4. Hell yeah, that’s the best for a pot of chili or curry. Gives the perfect level of flavor to heat for those stews
