We started with the Boisson Vadot Bourgogne Blanc 2016, bottled under Diam. It showed very fresh, with glossy fruit and almost no development — clean, precise and full of energy.

The Piero Busso Barbaresco is quickly becoming, after Burlotto, one of my favorite go-to bottles. Prices are still quite fair, and the wine itself is elegant, textural, and super lovely. It’s in a wonderful spot right now, and continued to improve as the night went on.

The Domaine de la Commeraine Chambolle 2022 was surprisingly enjoyable and already open, considering the young vintage. High quality, bright, and unexpectedly pleasurable for this stage.

But the wine of the night was without doubt the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Monthelie 1er Cru Rouge. From the very first sip it showed its class: sexy, textural, with whole cluster character and a touch of wood. As it opened, it revealed deep, impressive fruit and real finesse. People are still sleeping on Pierre-Yves’ reds, even though his wines in general are expensive. That said, I happily paid €79,95 for this bottle — worth every cent.
