LEWISTON, Idaho — A relaxing evening at Lindsay Creek Vineyards turned into a powerful show of support for women and families across the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.
The YWCA partnered with the local winery for “Corks for a Cause” on Thursday, an evening of wine tasting, fundraising and community spirit — all aimed at supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
“Lindsay Creek Winery here in Lewiston, Idaho, invites nonprofit organizations for fundraising events, usually every Thursday,” Molly Mustoe, board president of the YWCA said.
Mustoe revealed that she had received help from the YWCA, which gave her a stronger, more meaningful connection to the cause.
“Giving back to the Y is very important to me,” Mustoe said. “I received services from the Y and can understand the impact that the YWCA has on our communities.”
Guests raised their glasses and opened their wallets, contributing through silent auctions and donations. Ten percent of the proceeds from the benefit went to support the YWCA’s shelter services, advocacy programs and outreach efforts.
“To have our community come to this event and show their support and a really creative and lovely way, it’s so meaningful to see,” Mustoe said.
For those who missed the event, Mustoe emphasized there are still plenty of ways to get involved.
“Please visit the YWCA website where you can become a member,” she said.
The organization is also preparing for its next major event, Inspiring Women, set for Oct. 17.
“We have women from our community who, survive domestic violence, come and tell their success stories,” Mustoe said. “It’s so inspirational.”
And beyond the big fundraisers, Mustoe says the YWCA welcomes volunteers nearly every day of the week.
“There are plenty of volunteer opportunities at the Y almost every single day of the week,” she said. “If you’re passionate about, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, or if you’re just passionate about your community, a great way to give back is by volunteering.”
