My husband and I make boiled peanuts in our slow cookers every weekend during football season, and we want to branch out a little. I saw a recipe that used jalapeños, and it looks right up our alley.

My thought: add a whole jar of jalapeños (plus the juice) into our regular salt + water recipe.
My husband’s thought: they just cooked Cajun-style peanuts and then topped them with sliced jalapeños afterward.

Has anyone tried either method? Do the peppers need to cook with the peanuts for the flavor to soak in, or is adding them at the end better?

  1. Have never tasted it, so my opinion doesn’t matter…but that looks hella gross.

I haven’t tried either method but based on the photo, it looks like the jalapeños were put on top after cooking. I would maybe add the brine from the jalapeños to your regular recipe and add jalapeños when done boiling.

The only good thing about Florida. Gas station boiled peanuts!

Have you tried the brand peanut patch’s Cajun flavor? Sooo good!
Id look for a copycat recipe for that. Or just order big cans of that

Yeah they just add a cup or so of Cajun seasoning, lessen the salt since Cajun has sodium. Add jalaps after.

  6. if you slow cook already tender (pickled) jalapenos with your peanuts, you’re going to have peanuts in jalapeno mush water. your husband is correct.

i have cooked a lot peanuts and tried adding different spices/flavors nothing really seems to soak in to the peanuts as they boil , sure a little but not worth the cost of spice needed to the boil , its much better to add flavors after the boil

I’ve never had boiled peanuts, and this is possibly a stupid question (as I am only familiar with cracking the shells and eating roasted peanuts). Do you also eat the shells?

Are boiled peanuts wet when you eat them, or do you boil them and then dry them out?

Do you peel the peanuts or eat them as they are?

I cut up fresh jalapeños and put them in with the peanuts.

  12. This reminded me of when my dad would boil peanuts…so yummy. I miss that.

I LOVE boiled peanuts. Random very rare ones have very soft thin shells than can be chewed up and swallowed, but generally don’t eat the shells. I do chew the shells (and spit them out) as they’re very soft and full of delicious briney flavor. The peanuts themselves are usually pretty soft (but not necessarily mushy) and bc they’ve been cooking in salty brine, they are very salty themselves. It’s an entirely different experience than any other peanut eating experience. I love to down a few bowls sitting at home watching a baseball game. Think I’ll start getting some ready now!

  14. I love boiled peanuts. I’ve made them with jalapenos before. You should add fresh sliced jalapenos an hour before you turn off the heat. If you do it at the beginning, the jalapenos will fall apart. Honestly serving it with picked jalapenos sounds really good though.

Are these what Brits call ‘monkey nuts’?

I do two or three fresh cut jalapeños and as much honey as you can stand.  8 to 12 hours and love it

I’ve always thought boiled peanuts sounded awful, and after seeing this picture, I think they look awful, too. But gosh darn it, I’ve got to try them.

Definitely add jalapeno juice as part of the boiling liquid.
You want that flavor in the peanuts not just slices with them.

I add sliced fresh jalepeno, whole garlic cloves, and carrot sticks whenever I do them
    In the slow cooker
