Got this at my library used book sale. Woman’s World CookBook. 1961. What caught my attention was the “cheese and onion sandwich.” I have to try this. 🫠

1 cup cream cheese. 1/4 cup chopped Bermuda onion. Lettuce leaves. 1/4 cup mayonnaise. Mix the cheese with the onion. Use with mayonnaise and a crisp lettuce leaf between slices of buttered bread.

Gotta love those very simple sandwiches. I remember making “tea sandwiches” like these for a friend’s retro bridal shower. Another one was buttered bread, cut in rounds, enough butter sticking out the sides to adhere chopped parsley. Yum
My in laws used to make a yummy cracker dip out of mayo, shredded Jarlsberg, and finely diced red onion.

I like a grilled cheese with sautéed onions, does that count? I like to use Velveeta for my grilled cheese

I have a Polish friend who eats open faced sandwiches with farmer cheese and fresh scallions, which always sounded good.
I’m a bit curious about the mayonnaise, however. I would probably use butter instead if I thought it was too dry.
