Are you religious? If so, you should offer thanks to your deity/higher power/etc for the bounty you have received.

That’s got to be the result of someone getting thrown out. Keep it in the backyard out of view of the street.

Couldn’t figure out how to add text to my post.

I found this Large BGE just down my street and it appears to be in great shape. I am new to Kamados and ceramic cookers, so I am curious what this group’s thoughts are on where to start to begin refurbishing this. Here are my thoughts and a few questions:

    1) there are spider web like cracks across the enamel. I assume that’s just cosmetic. My plan is to clean the outside in some denatured alcohol.

    2) I’ll clean and reseason the cast iron chimney and big cast iron plate insert thing.

    3) there is a crack running through the entire fire ring. Is that a complete replacement, or should I work with it till it breaks completely?

    4) I’ll plan to replace shelves and all the bands in time.

    5) other than a grill grate, am I missing anything needed to cook?

    6) any other suggested cleaning or modifications?

Overall I don’t mind spending a bit of money to clean it up, so let me know if there are some worthwhile replacements or upgrades you’d suggest.

    Thanks!

I hope you went out and bought a lottery ticket after you brought that egg home.

It really looks to be in great shape considering others I’ve seen posted! You can replace the cap with the newer type or just really clean the daisy wheel cap. Otherwise just scrape off the place setter and start using. I would be concerned with the enamel cracking and wouldn’t let it get wet if it is. BGE sells a touch up paint you can smear over the cracking.

The other day I left my BGE on the side of the road while I cleaned out my garage… It’s been missing since 🥲

Looks perfect. Cast iron deflector and a kick ash as well? Fire her up and LET HER RIP!!!

This made my day. A free green egg? You are one lucky person. Go buy a lottery ticket ASAP.

“Found on the side of the road” what a steal

Hop it wasn’t one 🙂 congrats to you

  11. Great find! Can’t imagine pushing it that distance, those wheels are not built for distance!

  12. Did this “side of the road” happen to also be someone’s backyard?

These posts are really getting out of hand 😅

“Yesterday, a 2Xl nearly rolled over me while I was out for a stroll!!1!”

Seriously though, time to buy a lottery ticket it seems 😀

  14. Rejoice and be glad at your good fortune!! And, cook a pork butt! Congratulations!!

I got one with table for $500 barely used because the guys doc said he shouldn’t eat grilled food. The char was not good for him.

Lifting strap for support under the nest and egg. I wouldn’t trust a good nest for a long walk. Fold the tables down and walk it home. All components are replaceable. Burn it clean then replace parts.

Check to see if it has a tracking chip. Looks like a psy-op

Good dry brush and vacuum. Maybe replace that top vent. Then do a wide open 700 degree cook off will bring it back to white like new. Then just enjoy it.

Replace the dome vent and you should be good

I would replace the top damper and buy a new convector

Take out all the rusted pieces and replace. Fire up BGE and get it nice and hot for a few minutes on full blast. This will kill off anything living that has accumulated inside and also evaporate any moisture that has accumulated inside. Once everything has cooled you are good to go.
