I recently found myself really liking blonde espresso from starbucks and wanted to make my own drinks at home. I remembered my dad having a Nespresso machine in our basement, I brought it upstairs and cleaned it off. When I tried to run water through it to clean it out I found it making a weird noise and no water would come out. I tried researching to see what the issue could be. I chalked it up to being an air bubble and started looking for solutions. that’s when i came across the whole straw blowing thing and air in a ziploc bag. The only problem is my water tank doesn’t have a lid, it just sits in the machine (if that makes sense). I will admit the machine is pretty old, it’s a Nespresso essenza c101. It worked amazing when we first got it and we only used one pack of pods the whole we have had it. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

It could be blocked if it was sitting in storage for years. Have you tried descaling it?
Try this to see if it’s trying to pump. Take the reservoir out. Put a drop of water on the port where the reservoir valve connects. Try to brew. If the drop is sucked in, the pump is working. Also, try many times, again and again, which may move the airlock if there is one. Try tilting the machine different ways while you do that.
When you run the machine push the lever a bit to the back it would go tiny bit beyond its top position. It would open up the water exit manually. That may help.
If still not working, the issue is probably with the capacitor on the card.
Take a look at the suggestion I made in this post:

It’s most likely an air lock with your machine, so try that.
That old Essenza is nearly indestructible. If the pump is actually functioning, and there is no reason why not, you just need to push the vapor lock out of the way. Patience. The reason we suggest opening and closing the lever is that opens the end of the hydraulics wide and, if I remember my old Essenza correctly, it might actually create a bit of suction on the pressure side. Lifting and lowering the full tank with the pump running helps create a tiny bit of push at the suction end of the hydraulics and can move a few drops of water into the pump. You will hear the pump change noise when it grabs water. Keep us posted.
