My scotch bonnet plant that I grew from seed in January snapped off at the base today.

With no force either – I literally was stepping over it and brushed it with my foot, so lightly I wouldn't have even noticed if I hadn't heard the break.

The plant has just exploded with fruit and some were ripening. I've hung the plant upside down inside to see if any of the remaining fruit will ripen.

This plant was from sick seed stock…. The company refunded me after the entire pack of seedlings exploded with bacterial leaf spot and almost wiped out my other peppers but I quarantined in time. This one I salvaged to see what would happen – it came back to life but it just wasn't ever quite right. I grew it in a pot and yes I will be incinerating the dirt after.

Anyway. I'm mad…. Anyone got recipes for green scotch bonnet?

Hang it up to dry, I’ve had numerous peppers break branches and stems, I hang them in the greenhouse or on the fence and 80% still ripen. I have a bunch of Anaheim’s on a hook now.

Toss all of those in a 3% brine with some garlic, onion and celery. Let it sit for a couple months and blend it up with some lime juice and avocado! Enjoy!

Put the plant base in a vase with some water. Add water soluble nutrients and ph balance to 6.5. Then trim off all other branches that have small or early stage growth of peppers and ride it out. It might make it last long enough to get some to ripen.

In Jamaica Bonnets are often reaped while green, they with then ripen somewhat during transport.
    Just as flavorful.
Try putting one pod whole in a stew, it will change your life.

I did that last year and just taped the broken part back on and it was fine. It healed and the broken part kept making new peppers.

I want to cry for you. I knocked a couple of babies off my apple crisp the other day and I cried. I hope they ripen up for you!!

This is why you should have a cage around pepper plants..

Noooooo! I know how devasted you’re feeling. I’m in zone 7 b and caught my pepper plant tilted on one side today under windy conditions. I quickly re-inforced the bamboo sticks around it with twine rope.  It looks fine now

Propagate that bitch! Harvest the fruits, make clean cuts of each branch, stick it in a glass of water for a few weeks (or rockwool if you want best results), and you’ll have an army of clones ready to go.
