A friend sent me this place via a social media reel so I decided to give them a shot.
As a New Yorker in Toronto, I generally stay away from pizza places, I’m generally disappointed because I have specific preferences that aren’t met by the usual Toronto-style pizza joints.
I’ve finally found a place that I can add to the list that currently includes only North of Brooklyn. There’s a markedly NY impression in this pizza.
Both resemble the new-age style of NY-style pizza, made in the electric ovens, crispy undercarriage, a medium amount of char, and the characteristic that stands out the most: the drastic textural change between undercarriage and crust
At this point, I’ve resigned myself to not being able to find a place that will replicate the NYC style pizza slice that first became popular outside of NYC: the Baker’s pride gas oven, the drier dough, the almost orange color of the reheated pizzeria slice. This isn’t a bad consolation prize though.
