One of Calgary’s most beloved bakeries, known for its impressive selection of croissants, has closed its doors after six years.
Black Sheep, a popular French-inspired bakery and patisserie, has closed its doors without warning. While nothing has been shared on its social media accounts or its website, signage has been spotted at the 17th Avenue bakery, which alleges that the spot closed due to unpaid rent.
“As a result of the tenant’s default under the Lease in respect of unpaid Rent and Tenant’s failure to cure such default within the required time period, the Lease is hereby terminated effective 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, 2025… and the Landlord has taken possession of the Premises,” the sign reads.

At this time, there is no news on whether Black Sheep will reopen.
Black Sheep first opened its doors at 140-815 17th Ave. SW in 2019, with the aim of serving the best croissants and bringing authentic French baked goods to the city.
Since then, it has built up a loyal following of Calgarians, with its eye-catching selection of croissants featuring distinctive stripes of colour and French patisserie fare such as caneles, Parisian flan, and more.
Dished Calgary reached out to Black Sheep for further details, but has not received a response at the time of publication.
