Same criteria. Plain bagel, plain cream cheese, and however their version of bagel & lox/smoked salmon are prepared.
Served open face, and the first bagel had a great outer texture, nice “crust”, very chewy bite.
Lots of toppings, and very big tomato slices. Almost felt that hid the lox flavor underneath. Most of the onion and capers fell off.
By the time I got to the second half, moisture content had gotten into the bagel and made it much tougher to bite through and tear apart. Still very chewy, and I think because it was open face, I got more contents than in sandwich form.
One of my favorite iced coffees.
Was there about 11am, and while they had a good crowd, it didn’t feel like order took too long to arrive. Dined in.
$16.
Compared to Doughies at the same price, felt the flavor of the ingredients came through more, but liked the doughies bagel better.

I like Casper Fermentables bagels because they’re very clear about their purpose. They’re sourdough bagels with sourdough texture and sourdough funk, and I appreciate that they’re not attempting to replicate New York-style bagels. David’s Doughies veers too much in the “we’re trying to be New York” direction for me.

Looks good. But maybe skimping on the lox a little.

  4. When you started this Bagel Tour for some reason I thought you would go to one place per day, and I was like damn that’s a lot of bagels and lox.

Love the content though, I’m a huge bagel fan (Everything usually), although I usually go for some sort of veggie/chive/onion cream cheese, and occasionally lox but no tomato. I haven’t gotten a chance to try many places around town (just Rockstar and Wholly) but your reviews should give me some places to try.

Caspers gave me the worst bagel. Went near closing, it was rock hard. We couldn’t even eat it.

I wonder if they get their meat from their sister company, Mammalians Nurturable.

I see a bagel served open I leave. How much was this abomination? 18$

I like their bagels. The crust of the bagel doesn’t pull apart easily though, but it definitely tastes fresh and homemade. Yeah a lot of the toppings do fall off. The salmon lox bagel is definitely the go to there, but every once in a while I get the whitefish bagel. The whitefish is good, but I feel that they need to add some type of seasoning to the arugula they put on there.

I grew up eating pizza bagels and every other kind of bagel from Bagel Land in Brighton, NY. Caspers is the only bagel i find myself craving, in texas.
