There is one restaurant in Detroit that can say it has been host to some of the biggest names and entertainment, and even today, you can sit where stars like Frank Sinatra and John Travolta once sat and enjoy a fine dining experience.
Giovanni’s Restaurante on Oakwood in Detroit has been hosting a list of celebrities for as long as they’ve been open. I’m back in 2020, photojournalist John Ciolino got to visit what is considered to be the most popular restaurants of Italian cuisine in Detroit.
What once started out simply as a carry-out pizza place quickly began to grow in popularity once it transitioned into fine dining.
Celebrities Who Have Dined At Giovanni’s In Detroit
Since then, they’ve hosted dozens of A-list celebrities like Tony Bennett, Michael Bolton, John Travolta, George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Jason Priestley, Paul Newman, Larry King, and Frank Sinatra.
As their head chef and son of the founder, Randy Truan mentioned in a video captured by WXYZ Detroit, this is a restaurant that turned a lot of heads:
I would like to think you know we’re that restaurant on the edge of town that everybody has to go check out. My mom came in and wanted to have a fine-dining restaurant and everyone thought she was crazy.
Both noodles and sauce are house-made, and the restaurant has been running successfully since 1968. They’re located at 330 Oakwood in Detroit.
