Been seeing this a lot lately on all the BBQ people I follow… Cherry Dr. Pepper marinated pulled pork… wait, what? Yep, I was confused. How can that work? Isn't that weird? Well, I tried it and they were right!

Marinated in about 4 x 12oz cans of Cherry Dr Pepper for 24 hours. Rubbed with "Notorious P.I.G.". Electric pellet smoker, took about 7 hours at 250, on a combo of cherry and apple wood pellets. Got it up to 165 by itself, then put it back into the foil pans with more cherry Dr. Pepper to keep it moist, covered it with foil, then brought it up to 205 internal. Mushed' perfectly and was a crowd pleaser.

Also did some bacon wrapped polish sausage and regular hot dogs on the side.

Upvote if you like my setup please!

I can imagine cherry Dr Pepper compliments pork very well. I’ve had cherry coke smoked lamb shoulder before that was very good.

Thanks for posting this, one of the guys in my group chat did this style of Pull Pork this weekend and we thought he was crazy.

But it makes sense, soda has a ton of sugar and is acidic.

I’ve always used root beer but it’s the same principle.

I tried making pulled pork with beer once. It was absolutely awful. It was like eating flat leftover warm beer from the party last night.

    I imagine this tasted better.

Bonus points if you used Stubbs Dr Pepper bbq sauce.
