Occasionally, we need temporary respite from all the bad news. For those of us blessed to be able to take sanctuary, then the newly refurbished and expanded Old Mill in Dundonald — which has come back to life as Capparelli, a multi-function culinary venue which includes deli, café, restaurant and events spaces — is your man.
The big mill wheel is turning once again, although not driven by a mill race this time. Think of it more as a tribute to the earliest days of the industrial revolution. It might be driven by a wee electric motor, but still, it gives you an idea of the scale, ingenuity and capability of people 250 years ago. Not only that, but it’s also a sign of the scale of ambition expressed by chef patron Carlos Capparelli and partner Lucie.
