As you can see in the second pic, the granite counter that surrounds the egg cracked after a cook a few weeks ago. It was a moderately high temperature pizza cook (I think it got up to 650F). There is absolutely no weight on this part of the counter and I obviously wasn't leaning on it there (it would have been too hot). The company that supplied the granite counters is refusing to warranty this, they're trying to say that this setup puts the granite under unusual stress from the egg. I think that's bullshit b/c the ambient temps around the egg should not be any more than 250-300F and granite should not crack under those circumstances (especially when it's not under any kind of load). I'm curious what others think here. I know I'm not the only one with their egg embedded in a granite counter so I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced an issue like this.
Worth noting that I experienced an earlier issues with this same granite, the slab underneath the egg cracked during an earlier high temperature pizza cook. That one was obviously under a load so it wasn't as easy to blame the granite itself. I made a previous post about that issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/biggreenegg/comments/1kq2bj4/granite_slab_cracked_under_egg_after_high_temp/

Hiws that warranty look from the granite manufacturer? Would love to see a warranty contract that had the words “unusual” in it. Don’t think this has anything to do with your BGE as there is no contact between the two. Good luck, these situations never go the way you want.
I have noticed when I have my egg full open there is a lot of heat in the front. Almost as if it’s coming from the draft door. I know that it’s an intake but it definitely radiating heat when it’s open. Maybe that could have something to do with it. I’ve seen some charred wooden tables in the same area.
What granite is it?
