Just call it deconstructed gimbap and you’re a 🧑‍🍳

You are using a wrong type of seaweed. And cutting fish cake into strips will help. Good try though 👍

Nice bibimbap you got there 🤭

  4. terribly. Use the right kind of laver/gim. Use Gimbap Gim or sushi nori.

Looks like you bought the seaweed that is meant for cutting to smaller pieces and served at the table.

If you don’t want to go buy more seaweed. Take the sheets you have and cut them into 4’s. Cut your ingredients smaller and roll everything into mini-kimbap (mayak kimbap) This way you won’t need to slice them to smaller pieces and worry about them falling apart either.

As someone also mentioned. Cutting the fish cake into fine strips (and stir frying them if you have time) will make them softer and easier to work with as well.

Find the seaweed that has “김밥용”, which means “for Kimbap Making” it is layered in a way that makes the seaweed stronger and can be rolled more easily!

Well not great, it needs improvement. But if it tastes good, then why not enjoy it?

  9. Yeah, a lot of stuff going on here. And a lot of stuff not going on. The most important is how did you/your fami/ your friends like it? Traditionalist will say don’t call that gimbap. Others will say, good try, keep working at it. Maybe look for some recipes. Big tip is cut all of your ingredients. Everything should be cut into long strips that you can lay across the rice and should be reach one end of rhe seaweed to the other. For smaller things, lay them end to end across the rice.

The first time I tried I gave up after a rolling disaster and it became a very nice rice bowl.

Looks just like my mother’s, absolutely delish

I have had it with Hotdog used in it when my mom didn’t feel like going to the store but still wanted to make gimbap. Try with some better gim, even the one from Walmart, and a sharp knife. You will be golden

Some places will brush a thin layer of sesame oil on one side of the seaweed to make it more pliable. While I usually see this happen after it’s rolled (to keep the seaweed from tearing while cutting), if it’s not the thicker seaweed meant for gimbap, why not give it a try and see how it works out.

Also cut the fish cake into strips. On top of making it easier to roll, it’ll also make for better mouth feel imo.

  15. I’d devour it! You put in 1,000% more effort than I would. Great job 🤤🤤🤤

Why did i think it was a burrito for a second

  18. keyssik

Well it wouldn’t matter as long as it ends up in your belly being good, right?

Crumble everything even more then make them into rice balls. Or throw everything back into a pan and make bokkumbap.

Next time, use the unseasoned gim made especially gimbap. Cut bigger ingredients into smaller strips. Place everything in the first half so that the rice can surround everything. Good luck!

  20. How do you think you did? lol

You are using roasted seaweed. Nobody can roll kimbap with that. You need to get unroasted — often called “sushi grade.”

But technically, if there’s seaweed and rice, in any state… it’s kimbap!

Good try. Cut the ingredients into strips.
