Yes. Assuming it was stored properly this should still be drinking very nicely.

Yes! This wine is made of grapes from arguably Napa’s most famous single vineyard, To Kalon, of which Mondavi owns the lion’s share.

Properly stored, those 80s and early 90s Mondavi Reserves are some of the best wines I have enjoyed.

  4. I actually had this very bottle last year. Would recommend drinking soon, was very good, though tertiary and I bet it will not improve significantly with additional age.

I think Mondavi’s aged reserve Cabs are fantastic and I refer to them as “Poor man’s Opus One”.

  6. Yes! I had the 1986 and it was drinking very well.

How’s the fill? Can’t tell from your picture.

No, I’ll properly dispose of it for you.

Yes. I’m very partial to French wines, but one of my favorite wines ever was the 1974 Robert Mondavi Reserve cab. My dad bought a couple of cases when we were visiting family in CA in the early 80s, when I was about 9, and he managed to ration them judiciously enough that we were still drinking them on special occasions when I was 30. They’re all gone now, alas… I just double-checked his inventory, and there aren’t any on his consumed bottles list either, so the last one must have been consumed before I helped him get his inventory into Cellartracker over 15 years ago. It was beautiful stuff, with a lot of Bordeaux-style notes of flowers, cedar, lead pencil, leather and dark fruit. Low ABV by today’s standards, too, at 13%, though that might have been considered high back then. A wine from a bygone era.

In any event, enjoy that 1990! It should be great!
