[Music] Hey friends, welcome in to Cross My Heart Ministry. I am Laura McFarland here today to bring you two things, two free items. First of all, it is the month of September and so we have our new do it list for the month. This is a a little handy dandy one-page tool to help you keep your home tidy and also clean. And it’s just convenient because it’s all on one page. You don’t need a whole big huge three- ring binder filled with things. We have that organized into daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. You can print that. Here’s what it looks like. And then go ahead and start checking the boxes. The goal is just to do as many of those as you can. And the goal is, of course, just to develop good habits and give you sort of the guide and not to seek perfection. The other thing we have for you today is a new recipe. And so this is something that I’m calling a puff pancake breakfast casserole. It looks beautiful when it comes out of the oven. It sort of rises up sort of like a sule. Sort of a baked pancake if you will. So I I found a couple of different recipes. I tried one thought it wasn’t sweet enough. So I sort of adapted the recipe and I think this one is going to work. So I am out of town visiting family. I’m going to be making this. We’re having a big family reunion and so this is going to be a fun breakfast item for my family and I thought well maybe you would like to have this for yours if you have a fall break plan or if you’re trying to get a jump start on planning what you might serve your family for Thanksgiving maybe you would want to give this a try. So I’m going to go ahead and get right with it. It all goes into an 8 and 1/2 by 11 or 9 by1 cooking pan or breakfast casserole dish. So, I’m going to go ahead and spray this with non-stick spray. It calls for a stick of butter. And the cool thing is you open up your butter, put it in here, and then put it into a cold oven. And while the oven preheats, the idea is that the butter will melt. And by the time it is completely melted, you hopefully will have the rest of the ingredients all ready to go. So, I’m going to stick this in the oven. I’m going to preheat the oven to 425, and I’ll be right back. All right, a bike also grabbed the milk while I was there. Forgot about to get that out. I wanted to leave it in the oven as long as possible. We’re going to go ahead now and break the eggs into a separate bowl. So, I have my my bowl here to break the eggs. We’re going to mix the eggs and the milk in one container. First of all, cost for eight eggs. Let me get a little bowl to put my eggshells in just to accumulate those and to break my eggs as well, just in case I end up with a little eggshell that I want to get out of there. So, we’ll go through and do these. So, you have to have plenty of eggs on hand if you’re going to do this recipe. So, I think I’m up to three, four, five. It’s kind of like watching paper out. I watch someone uh cut a crack eggs, I guess. But part of it, six, three, six. That’s right. Seven. And one more. makes eight. Okay, I just always flip that over to try to keep as many of the egg whites in there and off the counter as possible. So, I’m going to go and move this out of the way. Going to take a whisk and go ahead and whisk these eggs up pretty well. You probably could use a hand mixer if you wanted. That’s just seemed like a lot to get that out. So, I’m just going to make sure that all my eggs are sort of whipped together as such. Okay, here we go. We want to watch that butter while it’s in the oven and make sure that it does not burn. That’s the one thing about having it in there. If you get distracted mixing up the ingredients and the butter melts too quickly, you don’t want that to burn. So, we’ll keep an eye on that as well. So, I’ve got the got the eggs here. I’m going to stir in the milk. It calls for two cups of milk. Now, all I have on hand is skim, so I’m going to do that. But of course, the more fat in the milk, the more richer this is going to be. I did try it once with one cup of cream at one cup of milk because I had cream on hand and I did like that flavor, but today we’re just going to use the milk because that’s what I’ve got. I think this is going to be kind of a forgiving recipe as long as you get some sugar in there. That was my one concern about the first time I made it. I just thought it wasn’t quite sweet enough. So, you’re going to make this pancake and then serve it with maple syrup. So, you do get the sweetness that way. So, we got our liquid ingredients here. I’m going to set those aside. And we’re going to go ahead then and mix together the dry ingredients. We need two cups of flour. So, let’s go and measure those out. I don’t have my granddaughters here with me to help measure. Last time I was cooking with my two oldest ones and I let Charlie rake the top off and the flour went all over the counter and I went and she said, “Granny, baking is messy.” And so she’s right. Baking can be messy and so we don’t worry about making a little bit of mess when we bake. Need a half a cup of sugar to go in with that two cups of flour. And I think this is what’s going to make the recipe just a little bit more sweet and I’m going to be more sed with it. So, there’s the half a cup of sugar. Going to add 3/4 of a teaspoon of salt. And probably a little dangerous to do this right over the container, but I’m living a little dangerously. So, there’s a half a teaspoon. And then another fourth to get us up to 34. And I got a lump of salt in there. So, I’m going to break that up to make sure that it’s we don’t bite into a big old hunk of salt. if it doesn’t get broken up when I mix it. Uh then we need two teaspoon of cinnamon. This is of course an ingredient that you always think about when you have French toast. So we’re doing that. And if it’s a little bit heaping about half of that again, the cinnamon can be generous. Going to go ahead and mix this together with my wooden spoon. Get all of the dry ingredients sort of mixed in together. So, I’ve got the flour, the sugar, the salt, the cinnamon. The last thing is the two teaspoons of vanilla. I’ll add that to the end. So, we’re going to go ahead and um stir the egg mixture into my dry ingredients. See how quickly this is going together? Going to pour this in and then get this all mixed up really well. all the dry ingredients mixed with the liquid. Now, I think another great way to serve this would be to cut up some fresh fruit. That would be berries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and sort of sprinkle those on top of your puff pancake. Maybe even with some powdered sugar sprinkled on top. And then drizzle on your favorite syrup. If you go full boore with the maple syrup, that’s delicious. If you want to cut down the calories just a little bit, you could do sugar-free. Uh but just whatever syrup you have on hand or maybe even some of the flavored syrups. There’s lots of yummy syrups out there that have different fruit flavors. And so you could even have a variety of those that you put out on your counter and let folks choose almost like a fruit bar and a fruit syrup bar to go with the puff pancake. When you bake this, the sides around the edges are sort of going to rise up sort of like a sule and you’ll see some of the melted butter even in the center of that. So, it’s a it just looks beautiful when you pull it out of the oven. And you’re going to want to serve it pretty quickly after it’s prepared. Now, I’m making this at a different time. So, I’m hoping it will also warm up well for breakfast tomorrow morning, but that’s that’s how we’re just going to do it today for purposes of having it ready for the video. Okay. So, I think this is all ready. Let’s see how my butter is doing here in the oven. And it is not quite melted. So, I probably could have gotten that in there just a little bit sooner or even melt it kind of softened my butter just a little bit before it got in there. So, I’m going to give that just a couple of minutes. And so, while we’re ticking away, um I’ll just suggest that when you like when you watch the video, if you like it, give it a thumbs up. If you try it, let me know. And let us know what toppings you use. Did you use fruit? Did you use some special kind of syrup? And what would be a fun occasion that you would want to take this? I think because it’s all in one casserole dish, it really lends itself well for a make and take. So, if you have a Sunday school class that meets till Sunday morning or you’re going to a brunch, it’d be a great one to make in the morning and then take somewhere for a group to have breakfast. So, maybe that’s an idea for you. I’m going to get my mitts out and see if I could check on this butter and maybe drizzle it around a little bit with a knife and see if I can hurry it along to kind of melt it because I’m impatient. The oven here is so slow to heat up. I always forget about that. So, it just takes a lot longer to preheat than my oven at home. So, after the butter is melted, and I still have just a little bit that’s all slightly melted, but it’s it’s going it’s getting there. And so, you just sort of want to tilt the pan around a little bit to get any remaining pieces melted. And then also just to show sort of make sure the oven is the sides and the bottom are completely coated with butter. If you tilt it, don’t tilt it so far that you spill the butter, but you want it to come up on the sides just a little bit. So, there’s a lot of butter in there. That’s a full stick of butter. And so when I pour in the the batter, it is going to sort of that butter is going to come fold itself back on top. And that’s okay. So when you take it out of the oven, don’t be surprised to see all that butter sort of sitting there on the top, but it will just add to the delicious flavor. So giving this a final little stir. Going to pour this in. And you can see it pushing the butter out of the way, but also coming up on the sides. So, I’m going to rake some of this in and then probably grab a spatula to make sure that I don’t waste a drop. I am sort of particular about that on my grandmother’s granddaughter. I didn’t grow up in the depression, but sometimes I act like I did the way that I don’t like to waste anything. So, I always use a spatula and sort of clean out my bowl. I’m realizing that’s stuck in the bottom with a little bit of flour. So, I’m going to get that mixed in to the liquid that’s left. Going to go ahead and scrape all this in everything delicious into our puff pancake and get it ready to bake. Okay, there we go. Every drop out. And so this is going to bake for about 20 minutes until it just golden brown. You check your oven and kind of watch it the first time you make this. It might take a little more time, a little less time depending upon your oven and how it works. But I’m going to go ahead and open my oven door, put this in, and then I’ll show you. We’ll put a picture up to let you see what the finished product looks like. Leave us a note. Let us know what you think. And again, thank you so much for spending part of your day with us for Cross My Heart Ministry. I’m Lauren Ferland. Also want to do remind you in the notes below you’ll find the link to get your copy of the do it list and also our write the word bookmark for the month of September. We introduced that in the video that posted on Friday. And of course like every September that bookmark is devoted to praying for our children in the month of September. Every year to coincide with the beginning of school we always do that. give you 30 prayer points to pray for your children, your grandchildren, nieces, nephews, the kids next door, whatever. I hope you’ll be praying for them. I hope you’ll be making the puff pancake and sharing it with those that you love. Thanks for spending part of your day with us. [Music]
