I bought a loaf of sourdough on September 17 in 2021 and took a photo of it in front the bakery. A year later I ended up buying a loaf of sourdough on September 17 without realizing and my own personal tradition began. I look forward to buying it every year

  1. So you only buy loaves once a year? You know you can make it at home, right?

Haha I love when things like this happen. Somehow 3 year in a row I made a poke bowl and took a pic of it, like I just specifically crave a poke bowl on August 5 or whatever it is. I never remember and yet it happened 3 times!!

Well, now you’re going to get a whole bunch of Breadittors sharing their Sourdough loaves with you on Sept 17th every year.

**And thus a holiday was born**

Sourdough Day is on the 17th of September?

I’mma have to write this down!

As others have noted you should try making your own sourdough! It can be a bit of a journey but it’s absolutely worth it and I guarantee you that even your worst sourdough loaf will still taste amazing 99.9% of the time. I also promise you that those who eat the “mistakes” we’ll have a hard time understanding what the mistakes actually are–don’t bother trying to explain it to them.

Making the sourdough starter is easier and a great place to start. There’s lots of online tutorials about it but find one that oversimplify the process rather than over complicated. I’ve seen way too many long articles or extremely long posts trying to explain how to make a sourdough starter. It’s not rocket science. Find something quick and short and keep in mind that the sourdough starter will not be usable until 2 to 4 weeks in.

They say your 100th sourdough bake will come with total and full knowledge on how to make it perfectly. I kind of believe that at this point. There’s so many steps to sourdough baking that you just don’t know what you don’t know and there’s so much nuance and a longer process involved than instant or active yeasted breads that it can be a little discouraging but just look at every bake as a learning experience because you will learn something new each time!

Enjoy your sourdough and I hope you get to making your own pretty soon.

A quick Google search suggests that national sourdough day is April 1st (not a joke) (seriously Google it)
