Far and away the best wine I have ever had. Blew the ‘82 La Mission Haut Brion that we had last year out of the water.

Was quite uninspiring when first opened, but after a two hour decant it was magical. A lot of dried fruit, leather, and overall earthiness, with some tannins. A lot of spice notes, I thought it smelled very strongly of cinnamon, which then evolved into other fall spices. It was amazingly balanced, with good acidity. I can write as much as I want but will never be able to truly describe exactly how it tasted, it was incredibly complex and it changed a bit with every sip as it opened up throughout the night.

Will probably be the best I will ever have, I genuinely can’t see how something can be better.

  1. Amazing, bucket list wine for sure! Did you enjoy at home? Love to hear the journey behind special wines like this.

Well I had a Josh Cab Sauv at my hotel in Baltimore last night, so….⚖️

But seriously, that looks amazing with that gorgeous color. 82s are drinking so well right now. Must have tasted amazing.

82 Mouton is the best BDX i’ve ever had

I just shared a ’82 mouton with a buddy along with a 2003 lafite and I gotta say both were stunning but the ’82 mouton was probably best wine I will ever consume in my life

The only 1982 I have had was an Ormes De Pez and it was magical. Still my best experience remains a 2005 St Pierre St Julien, was ethereal

Goodness that looks amazing. I don’t think I will ever try anything that good. I’m too old to buy and store, and doubt I’ll spend the $ to explore.

What an awesome experience! I’ve tasted a decent amount of Latour, but never an ’82. The testament to Latour’s greatness for me is displayed in the challenging vintages (2013, 2007, 2002, etc.) – the quality of their wines never seems to dip as drastically as some of their peers, which is a tribute to their amazing vineyards and brilliant winemaking team.

That said, I’d rather have the ’82 – hopefully can join you in crossing it off the list someday!

I’ve been fortunate enough to have had all of the 1982 first growths, plus Cheval Blanc and Petrus.

The bottle of Latour was the best of the lot.

Latour is always the most powerful of the first growths. They use more Verdot than the others and tend to be more extracted.
