Finally made it to Hiro Izakaya and… wow. Absolutely loved this place.

The space has two rooms — the front room is definitely the vibe: great music, bar anchoring the center, dark and moody lighting, and plenty of space between tables so it doesn’t feel cramped. Perfect atmosphere for lingering over food and drinks.

The food did not miss.

  • Truffle Hamachi – insane. Paper-thin slices topped with shaved truffle and a truffle sauce that wasn’t overpowering, with great crunch from some fried taters
  • Gyoza – thin, delicate wrappers with juicy filling.
  • Okonomiyaki – loaded with shrimp and octopus, perfectly balanced.
  • Cucumber salad – light, sesame + seaweed flavors, a refreshing way to start.
  • Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice – rice was definitely crispy but not too dense, and a ton of tuna on it. Only 3 come in an order, but you can add on a 4th

But the burger stole the entire show. Haven’t been to Momotaro’s izakaya yet, but this burger feels like it’s gunning for them. Served on a soft milk bread bun, layered with miso-grilled onions, super umami, and cooked perfectly. We were stunned. Days later, still thinking about it. Messy juicy and delicious.

Drinks were great across the board, and we were definitely eyeing more for next time — the robata, hand rolls, fries, and short rib noodles all looked fire.

Honestly, Hiro Izakaya feels like a huge addition to West Town. Once word gets out, this is going to be a tough reservation to land. For now, I’m just grateful I got in early… and I’m already planning my return trip for that burger + hamachi.
