New Worcester Mediterranean restaurant closed due to electrical fire

A Mediterranean restaurant that opened last week in Worcester has temporarily closed due to an electrical fire on Tuesday.

The fire was located at Vivienne, a coastal Mediterranean restaurant created by Niche Hospitality Group at 446 Main St. in Worcester.

Vivienne officially opened on Sept. 3.

Firefighters quickly contained the fire and no injuries were reported, according to Niche Hospitality President Michael Covino.

Covino wrote that the restaurant is currently closed and did not provide a reopening date.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Worcester Fire Department for their swift response and ability to minimize the damage,” Covino said in a statement. “While we are still assessing the extent of the situation, our top priorities are the safety of our team and neighbors and repairing the space. We will persevere and reopen as soon as possible for both our valued employees and guests.”

The Niche Hospitality Group owns several restaurants in Worcester, including The Fix Burger Bar, Mezcal Tequila Cantina, and Bocado Tapas Wine Bar, which was named a top restaurant in 2025 by USA Today.

Covino and the Niche Hospitality group also opened a new seafood restaurant this summer, The Green Island Oyster Bar, at 90 Harding St.
