Some person on TikTok blew it up after accusing the hostess (and gf of the owner) of being rude to them 🤷🏻♀️

The story goes, about a year ago some vlogger left a negative review for Dudley. Wait time, food didn’t match the hype, ambience and decor was better, apparently a rude experience with the hostess, who unfortunately wound up being the owners gf, but nothing over the top and truthfully, not terribly out of left field.
Fast forward a year later, vlogger decides to give them another shot and gets turned away at the door and some not so nice exchanges with the owner’s gf, iirc. (Edit) Turns out the vlogger had still been coming regularly (part of the wine club) and had another nice dining experience when owners GF wasn’t there.
I think where they got caught up is the owner getting involved and egos + words are usually not a good combo. What the internet public didn’t like was the gate keeping of a real review from a real patron – only because she didn’t give the place 5* and a glowing review. Gate keeping their reviews is what caused even more drama. Banning someone after a year had passed, while they had still continued to show up each month to collect their wine (wine club) and had dined there after the review, that made everything weirder.
Barbara Streisand effect basically. When your ego should’ve just let it go and especially after an entire year had passed. Just came across as petty. Like, who doesn’t complain about the wait time at Dudley’s? lol.
That’s as much as I know.
Edit: remembered a couple more things

Just went. It was great.

It’s a shame. I recently listened to this great interview with the owner on KCRW, and was very impressed with his dedication and overall effort they are putting in doing things right. In case you’re curious:
Any place that tells influencers and bloggers to fuck off is my kind of place.

I went a few months ago and was extremely underwhelmed. Food was meh and it was so loud in there, it felt like a club.

I don’t care it’s actually delicious and worth all the hype.

probably a good measure. cafe 2001 in the arts district got a similar barrage of bad reviews from a tiktok of someone being served an “undercooked” chicken katsu sandwich that was actually perfectly cooked pork.

I’ve been meaning to go there for dinner, but they don’t have a menu online. I always like to check before trying a new spot.

It probably has to do with the fact that Nicely, the guy who runs hooked coffee from inside Dudley Market is currently doing a series on coffee with Emma Chamberlain
