It’s a hand me down egg – still fires up well but I caught this crack tonight. A quick Google search says refractory cement might work, but what say the community of experts?

I personally would not want that holding a bowl full of burning coals next to all that wood. I wouldn’t try repairing it. I guess you could try refractory cement if you really want to. I wouldn’t risk it. Turn it into a planter and get a new grill.

Make a warranty claim. If approved, BGE will send you a new base. Nothing to lose, it’s as easy as posting on Reddit.

Has anyone ever tried high temp epoxy?  Seems like the perfect fix for this.
Even that gasket cement which is good to 1000+F

As soon as you take it out of the nest it will fall apart. This just happened to me. Try to repair while still in the nest.

Take a pic of it and take it to your local BGE dealer, see what they say….

I used refractory cement on an egg I dropped. The lower section was in 6 pieces. I followed instructions and some subreddit guidance, and it fired up with no issues. I would leave it in the basket, wire brush where you can, and spend $15 trying to make it right. It won’t be pretty, but where it’s damaged, who cares?

That is a fire waiting to happen, especially if you are cooking a pizza or searing a steak. Since there is no warranty because it is a hand me down, it would be best to order a new base.
