I have owned my green egg for 11 years and have never cleaned the daisy wheel. It was getting so gummed up I would have to hit it with something for the wheel part in the centre to turn. So I tossed it in the egg after smoking a chuck roast and opened up the vents. It came out pretty decent. Just have to scrap off the ash.

I did the same thing about month ago, I forgot to remove the liner inside the daisy wheel… i just burnt and stuck to it. Lesson learned
That’s a great idea. I just did mine after about the same time. I took mine apart and cleaned it thoroughly with a drill powered wire brush. It looks amazing, but I wish I’d gone your way.
That makes sense
I put mine on the grill grate. The temperature is higher above the coals. That way you aren’t burning of the seasoning from the iron, and it won’t rust.
Got the new regulator cap instead of the daisy wheel and it’s been one of the best egg upgrades I’ve ever done.
Have to oil after this
Don’t forget to season it afterwards.
Niiiiiice.
