Definitely some mixed opinions on bottle prices at restaurants on here but come on these prices are ridiculous. No?

4-6x markup that’s wild what kind of place is this?

  2. Looks like they’re encouraging you to order beer

Looks like I’ll be ordering water. Maybe iced tea.

This sort of bullshittery shows contempt for the customer

That Lambrusco’s looking pretty appealing right now …

  6. Lambrusco Reggiano from France seems a bit sus regardless of prices for anything else.

I feel like I may have eaten at this restaurant. The font and price shock feel familiar.

Interestingly, it’s like all the restaurants I have been to lately got together and they decided that they would price caymus over $200.
My wife and I just look at each other every time and laugh.

As a beverage professional, owners tends to dictate markups. They tell you to mark up 4-5x, and then ask why wine sales are mediocre. It’s absurd. I’ve never wanted to oversee a wine library. I want people to drink wine!!

I am in France and considering relocating to the US for my work but posts like this are so depressing.

  11. Prices are irrelevant when there is nothing to even order. Constellation brands debacle, ruuuuuun!

Btw. It’s actually impressive that Caymus marketing team is still listing vintages on the bottles. Make all of them NV.

We have a few restaurants we enjoy that have gone away from the 3x cost model. They will sell bottle retail for pretty normal prices – say $50 for the Artemis then charge corkage for the privilege of using their stemware and consuming it with our meal. Net result, ee buy wine there. The biggest problem I see with this list is these are “grocery store wines.” You have to be very out of touch to not realize you’re being gouged

This seems like an annoyed wine buyer who is told he has to buy it for the restaurant so he marks it up like crazy in order to encourage people to try other wines.
