The piece was actually twice as big (still not huge) and $45. I asked them to cut it in half for me and they happily obliged. I was like “45 dollars!! I’m not rich!!” Then I took this excellent $22 dollar treasure over to the checkout line as my sole purchase and made it home with no further witnesses to my profligate dairy spending. I was mail ordering the really old stuff but now I’m so pleased to report that my small-ish town has not one but two places to buy 10 year cheddar. What a world we live in. Not too shabby.

I know this sub has lots of Hook’s fans. All of their older cheddars are fantastic and so is their original culture colby and their various blue cheese selections.
