Hey y’all, my mom made mac n cheese and used a liner, now the pot itself is covered in plastic? I used a scrub daddy and it didn’t really do anything… anyone have any ideas how to remove this?

Try bar keeper’s friend. I wouldn’t be too rough with it, though. It’s meant for metal but I’ve used it on our crock pot and enameled surfaces.

Hmm. Maybe fill it with water, a little dish soap (Dawn if you have it) and then turn it on high for a while? Then dump most of the water out, add some more dish soap and baking soda and give it a scrub then.

I bet you that is just starch from the steam. Boil some water in there.

I typically just straight Dawn dish soap.. let set then just dish towel mine after a little bit.. idk 🤷‍♀️

Sorry, what? If there is literal melted plastic in that pot, I’d probably throw it away. Doesn’t seem food safe anymore.

A little baking soda and your usual dish liquid oughta do it. The baking soda scrubs everything away.

Lightly scrub with steel wool. It should come off.

Try some WD40 on a scrubby pad, then wash thoroughly.

  11. If nothing else works acetone will dissolve it, just make sure to clean it very well afterwards.

Throw it away and buy a new pot. You don’t want to eat anything from it, for your health

Stop using “liners”, you’re eating fecking plastic.

What is the pot made of?

If it’s stainless steel, you can use acetone to dissolve the plastic off and then rinse it and wash well with dish soap. Just don’t let it sit too long or it can cause some discoloration. Don’t use the scrub daddy after either, just some dish soap and a sponge.

I’ve always been skeptical of the liners because it’s like yes let me cook these plastic chemicals into my food!

  17. Bowser7717

Have you heated it up again to soften the plastic and then wipe out as much as possible? I would stop using the liners altogether, there is no way that heating up plastic in your food is good for you. Same with heating plastic containers in the microwave, etc..

Let soak in some vinegar and dawn dish soap. Wipe the pot with paper towel. Then again with a wet towel. Repeat until clean. Don’t pour the plastic (if that’s what it is) down the sink. If it is melted plastic? Then this is toxic. Toss the plastic liners.

I don’t trust plastic near my food when cooking.

It looks like she bagged the entire crockpot and melted the plastic over the entire pot…I’m doubtful that will clean off

    1. Don’t eat that mac and cheese. It will have plastic in it.
    2. Throw the pot away. It’s not food safe and I doubt you can make it so again.

I’ve never understood using a liner. Like, how hard is it to clean a pot?

  22. jjojj07

    Try most gentle first
    – boiling water and dish soap
    – bicarb + vinegar
    – Cerapol and scraper

  23. Persimmon_Puree

Personally I’ve never seen anyone remove plastic like that from a metal pot. I would throw it away.

If all else fails get a dishwasher tablet and boiling water. That’s my go to any time I’m worried about a pot

Bon Ami powdered scrub cleanser is also really good. Won’t scratch. Make a paste with water and scrub with a sponge.

  26. Sauce-Man0495

Dawn and vinegar might work fill the pot with water a little Dawn and vinegar cleans a lot of things off

  27. SephoraRothschild

Was it meant for an air fryer?

  28. EnvironmentalAngle

Baking soda will clear this right up.

Add a bunch of it into the pan and a teeny bit of water. You don’t want it to dissolve, you want a slurry.

Then just get to scrubbing. Letting it sit won’t work because its an abrasive and not a solvent.

Also pro tip, this will bring back your grimiest pans.

  29. justacpa

Try a melamine sponge or barkeepers friend.

  30. Legitimate_Pudding49

I’ve never heard of liners like this! Is it so you don’t have to wash the pot? Kind of backfired here. Good luck!

  31. spicesickness

Acetone will eat it alive. It also might eat the glaze on the ceramic. Test a spot on the bottom first.

  32. Apprehensive_Pace555

To be safe , I’d just buy a new one. Lots of chemicals and potential health issues. Also there are plenty of used ones at thrift stores, garage sales , if a new one isn’t in your budget.

  33. chills666

barkeepers friend to get the imperfections out then a good scrub w dishsoap and hot hot water to finish

  34. anothersip

Wait, a liner? What is this new devilry that you speak of?

I usually just turn my crock on, prep my ingredients, and dump everything straight into the pot.
