PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — The Palm Beach County Food Bank is honoring Hunger Action Month with a slate of events designed to bring the community together in support of the nearly 192,000 residents who face food insecurity.

The nonprofit distributed more than 11.7 million meals to more than 193,000 people during its 2024-25 fiscal year. Food is collected from grocery stores, farmers, wholesalers and other partners, then distributed to more than 200 local agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, schools and families.

“This month is a special, but sobering time as we see the increasing need to help our neighbors here in Palm Beach County. Yet, we also have front row seats to bear witness to the generosity and giving spirit of our community,” said Jamie Kendall, CEO of the Palm Beach County Food Bank.

According to the PBC foodbank, one in nine residents here don’t know where their next meal is coming from. The food bank is turning it into a call to action.

One of the biggest events of Hunger Action Month is on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Tuesday also marks Hunger Action Day, that’s when they are holding “Pack to give back day.”

The event will go from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. Volunteers can participate in the three available shifts in the Gimelstob Ballroom in the Cohen Pavilion at the Kravis Center.

This is in partnership with the Kravis Center and catering by Lessing’s Hospitality Group. Volunteers will help package 200,000 meals.

Here is a list of the several other events that are planned throughout September:

Sept. 1–23: WayFM is hosting its “World’s Biggest Food Drive,” with the Food Bank among the beneficiaries. Donations can be made at pbcfoodbank.org/way-fm.

Sept. 16 — Hunger Action Day: Volunteers will gather at the Kravis Center for the “Pack to Give Back: Day of 200,000 Meals,” sponsored in part by Lessing’s Hospitality Group.
