AKA 'Scottish Plain'. I wish I could get this in Somerset. Seldom seen South of Coventry….sadly. I first encountered it in Bedworth (pronounced Bedduth). My mates mum (Scottish family) made us toast and it was the best toast I've ever had….sourdough is close, but I do wish I could find 'plain-bread' in Somerset 😞

To anyone saying, Tesco's stock it or some other supermarket……if they do, it's not a regular thing and I've never managed to find it.

Oh mate me too. Maternal family all from Fife, this makes the best toast. If you find it please please please let me know!

Plain breed. So good. Nothing like a toasted ootsider with a slever of jam.

Never had this, but the top looks really pleasantly chewy.

Not seen this in many a year (Sunderland). The crust was to die for.

You cannot buy it in the south west of England, trust me, I’ve tried as I’m tired of bringing 4-6 loaves home with me after every visit home. However Randall’s Scottish butchers do deliver it…

Oh, that looks like it would make perfect toast!

  9. Morrisons in Newcastle do it so I presume other branches have it as well 👍

I love it but can’t get it where I live. Every time I go back up home, I start my day with toast made from plain bread. It’s the best toast ever.

How is it different to ordinary white sliced bread? I’ve never tried it.

    Is it like tiger loaf?

Aldi do a knock off.. They could probably order it in if you asked.

Irish person checking in…this is batch bread, right?! 😋

  14. I miss it desperately! It was always my favourite growing up… and then I grew up and developed a wheat allergy 😭

This is not just bread, its also a Schrödinger conundrum. Therein might be the thickest, doughiest, Chewiest outsider you have ever had.you have two chances to find out, but you must choose wisely, cos if you open the ‘wrong’ end you risk the potential winner at the other end going stale as you have to consume the whole loaf before you find out. Those are the rules, anyone who breaks them is neither Scottish nor a gentleman.

I grew up eating Mother’s Pride. I haven’t seen it anywhere here in London for over 25 years.

The best bread for ‘salt & vinegar’ crisp sandwiches.

Best a gear! Plain piece n square sausage makes me proud to be Scottish!

When you get the mega outsider and slaver it with butter so it melts into the dough … Heaven
