Had the chance to join a tasting at Gaja – truly a benchmark in Piedmont. Line-up included:
β€’ Alteni di Brassica 2021 (Langhe Sauvignon Blanc)
β€’ Barbaresco 2021
β€’ Sperss 2021 (Barolo)
β€’ Conteisa 2014 (Barolo)
β€’ Sperss 2001 (Langhe Nebbiolo)
‒ Sorì San Lorenzo 1988 (Barbaresco)
β€’ Gaia & Rey 2008 magnum (Langhe Chardonnay)

A fascinating journey across vintages and crus: from the youthful energy of 2021s to the complexity and depth of SorΓ¬ San Lorenzo ’88.
For me, the 2001 Sperss really stood out – power, elegance and perfect maturity.

How in the heck did you land a tasting in Gaja? I’ve always wondered about these exclusive tastings. I’m sure it was a wonderful experience

Ah man, I was there last year and the lineup was broadly similar, *except* there was no mag of Gaia & Rey. I’ve still never tried it. Incredible place though isn’t it?
