Ok so it’s been about a month since I’ve eaten this. But I’ve had some reviews I’ve delayed on posting and wanted to finally write them!
By this point I’ve tried a lot of Ben & Jerry’s flavors. Kinda ran out of flavors i was interested in trying. So I went ahead and got Salted Caramel Core despite hearing it was too salty in a review. And also Topped Mint (loved the Mint Chocolate Cookie non-dairy).
Salted Caramel Core
- Sweet cream ice cream – very pleasant ice cream taste, like a light caramel. Similar to the base ice cream of PB S’More. Or something like Van Leeuwen Honeycomb. Sweet cream, with a light mellow sweetness.
- Blonde brownies – quite liked these. The texture of their fudge brownie. But a totally different taste. Like an Insomnia cookie blonde brownie. How would you describe it? Like a brownie that has a cookie taste I guess.
- Salted caramel core – unfortunately, reviews were right. This is mega salted. I can appreciate a salted caramel. But this is like eating soy sauce (without the soy sauce flavor of course). I do not understand why Ben and Jerry’s would choose this amount of salt for their caramel. I finished it by taking just a tiny bit and adding to the sweet cream ice cream. The caramel quality was decent I guess.
**Rating: 4/10. The sweet cream ice cream and blonde brownies are both flavors i would certainly buy again. But that caramel core is just like, why? It’s a shame as it otherwise is a decent ice cream with unique flavors and mix in I would love to recommend. But unfortunately I cannot.
Topped Mint
- Mint ice cream – pleasantly minty!
- Chocolate cookie swirl – lots of texture. Fun to eat
- Mint chocolate cookie balls – pretty unique. I didn’t look at the packaging close enough and thought I’d be getting the large cookie chunks like in Mint Chocolate Cookie, which is absolutely amazing but which I’ve had before. But to my surprise instead there was like a mother lode of these small balls of cookie wrapped in like a thick semisweet chocolate layer. Looks like BB gun pellets. They were a bit hard on the outside but very crispy on the inside. Personally I have teeth that can’t chew on hard things. But I do still recommend this mix in for those who don’t. Ben and Jerry’s got the texture right.
- Chocolatey ganache top – as you can I see I didn’t get a whole lot of it. But it was fine for me as it’s on the sweet side anyway.
- Chocolate cookies (on top of the ganache) – I don’t remember these but think they were fine.
**Rating: 8/10. I think this is an underrated flavor with lots of fun. I wouldn’t get again for the reason mentioned. But yeah totally check it out.
If you like these try:
- Ben and Jerry’s PB S’mores – a nice, gentle flavor of ice cream
- Ben and Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Cookie – i loveeeee the big amounts of cookie chunks
- Ben and Jerry’s Dirt Cake – very sweet, frosting sweet. But has fun crunchy textures too. And big cookies.

Thank you for this!! I appreciate you digging into the backlog, your reviews are great.
Completely agree on salted caramel core! It’s unfortunate since the texture of blondie bites really does go well with the sweet cream.
Great details review. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I am through with the “Topped” and “Sundaes” as they’re just scams to reduce the net weight and charge the same. It’s B&J’s version of shrinkflation. Or enshitification, depending on your viewpoint.
Check your Topped container. I believe it’s only 15.2oz. Some of these sundaes/topped varieites are only 14oz. Compare that to a standard B&Js pint, which is 16oz.
I also just tried the salted caramel core. It is sooo salty. It might work if it was thinner swirls but having it all globbed in the middle like that, it’s just too much
I’ve found I don’t usually care for the topped and core variants.
Am I weird for liking the caramel core?
The dairy free salted caramel core is sooooo yummy. I’ve never tried to dairy one.
my complaint about most “salted” caramel is that it’s not salty enough. so for me the b&j one is PERFECT. but im a sweet and salty LOVER. i often eat around the core and just save the salted caramel for the end.
it’s actually been a couple years since i’ve had the salted caramel core, i might have to pick up a pint soon!
Jerry quit B&J’s today apparently
I appreciate the pictures and all the details in your review. The B & J salted caramel core sounded great until you got to the salted caramel part!
