Sorry reddit, literally my first steak, just a flank I seared on both sides 4 minutes each and then cooked until the temp read 134, but could it not be thick enough for my thermometer to read?

I would say medium. But how did it taste (looks good)

Med Rare. The meat has changed from dark to light pink. Congrats! Now I’m hungry…

Looks medium -rareish to me. But definitely nowhere near raw. But don’t let people on this sub tell you how to enjoy your steak. My favorite is a medium and if it’s a little more towards medium rare that’s great. If it’s a little more towards well done…..well it is what it is. If you think that looks raw you might be someone who enjoys their steaks a little more towards medium, nothing wrong with that

Medium, anyone who sees wall to wall pink interior and automatically assume it’s medium rare is incorrect. It’s pink and springy on the inside no cold raw meat, which would be the rare part. For med rare I would pull your steak closer to 120.

You did a good job your thermometer looks to be accurate! 👏

Just a heads up since you’re new, whole muscle cuts of beef in the US are considered safely cooked if the exterior is at temperature. Unless it was ‘mechanically tenderized’ or is a meat-glue steak, if the outside has a crust like this at all, it is no longer raw.

People are going to be divided on whether it’s medium or medium rare. Looks to be pretty solidly in the middle. What matters is you have an even cook with almost no gray band and a great sear. For a first timer you knocked out of the park.

Nailed my personal preference. Borderline medium rare/medium.

You eat that steak right now or I’m calling the Meat Cops! 👮‍♀️ 🥩

It’s perfect. I’d call it medium rare plus

Medium/medium-rare. Whoever told you this is raw is blind

That’s exactly how I like mine

This is my ideal cook, I always order medium rare if in a restaurant cause im afraid they’ll do a more cooked medium if I order medium but this steak is a nice right in-between medium rare and medium!

Neither. That’s medium, perhaps a tad close to medium rare.

  15. Radica1Edward

Medium? Possibly in between medium rare and medium, but not close to rare.

Get a temp probe. Will save you a ton of headaches

Raw is what you get at the store dammit. This sub needs to ban that word. Also its medium rare so far from uncooked meat aka raw
