Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake
BAKING/SERVING INSTRUCTIONS:
▪️ Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 40-45 minutes or until the cake is a light golden brown on the top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
▪️ Immediately place cake pan onto a wire rack to cool for 10 minutes. ▪️ Once cooled, place the serving plate or platter on top of the pan and quickly turn upside down. Let the cake naturally fall out of the pan before removing.
▪️ The cake will be warm and tender. For cleaner slices, let cool for 10-15 more minutes before cutting and serving. Serve as-is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Today I’m sharing how to make my easy caramel apple upside down cake for a delicious and beautiful cake for fall. Before we dive in, hit that subscribe button and like and comment below if you love this recipe. First, peel, core, and slice two medium apples into a/4 in slices. I like to use one Granny Smith apple and one Honey Crisp apple for a flavor balance, but you can use whichever baking apple is your favorite. Next, preheat your oven to 350° F and spray and line the bottom of a 9×3 round cake pan to prevent sticking. In a saucepan, add 1/4 cup of unsalted butter and melt over medium heat. Once melted, add in 2/3 of a cup of light brown sugar and whisk until the sugar dissolves. Add in 1/8 a teaspoon of sea salt and continue whisking until the mixture gets lighter in color and starts to boil. This only takes a minute or so. Once it starts to bubble and boil, remove from heat and whisk in half a teaspoon of cinnamon. Lastly, add in 1 to 2 tablespoon of milk and whisk until smooth. [Music] Immediately pour the caramel sauce into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly. Next, arrange the apple slices on top of the caramel sauce, overlapping as needed. [Music] In a large mixing bowl, add 1/3 of a cup of oil, a cup of granulated sugar, half a cup of sour cream, three large eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and half a teaspoon of cinnamon. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and combined. [Music] Next, add in 1 and 1/2 cups or 188 g of self-rising flour in increments, whisking in between until combined. [Music] Pour the cake batter over the apples and bake in the oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until the cake is a light golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Place the cake on a cooling rack to cool for 10 minutes. Once cooled, place a plate upside down on top of the pan and quickly turn it over. Give the pan a few taps and let the cake naturally fall out of the pan before removing it. This cake is delicious as is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Hope you enjoy. [Music]
