I ended up with 19 blue ribbons at my county fair this year.
I was happy about every ribbon I won, but was ecstatic to win for pickled okra and dill pickles.

I didnt mean to post as recipe included but heres my recipe/guide to entering competitions.
What they are looking for is fundamentals such as how well your jars are packed, clarity of your jams and pickles, and headspacing.
Follow the standard 1/4 inch guide for jams. 1/2 guide for pickles and 1 inch for pressure canned foods.

I judge canned goods and candies at a local 4H fair with my wife. It’s common for people to win a shit ton of stuff if they enter everything, that was my wife’s strategy as a kid in 4H, enter something in *everything*. Especially if you know no one else is. That being said, SO MANY years most canned goods get disqualified for too much head space or rusty lids
