Nothing beats a home cooked meal but sometimes time and energy are in short supply. In these instances it can be very tempting to order a takeaway but that isn’t always a budget-friendly option.

Though not always the most nutritious, or even the cheapest, a ready made meal is sometimes the best option for something quick and satisfying for those tired Friday nights where watching a film is a far more appealing activity than chopping onions.

Saving even the need to take a trip to the supermarket, Co-op is offering shoppers an Italian meal delivered to their doorstep in 30 minutes.

At £7 for members, or £8 for non-members and is said to serve two.

For this price customers can choose from a selection of mains plus two sides – and the options are generous.

For mains, shoppers can choose from a slow cooked beef ragu, spicy chicken arrabbiata, aubergine parmigiana or meatball marinara.

Sides include tenderstem broccoli, Mediterranean style vegetables, fresh gnocchi, garlic ciabatta breadsticks, garlic flatbread, fresh fusilli, risotto Milanese or garlic and herb diced potatoes.

Co-op’s website says: “Quick cuisine that’s big on flavour and light on effort.

“With quality, ready-to-cook ingredients that are expertly selected, prepared — when you’re looking for more than a microwave meal.”

This could make a good middle ground between cooking a full meal and ordering an expensive takeaway.

At £3.50 a head for members it is better value than most ready meals even without sides.

The deal is available now on the Co-op website and runs until October 28.

Customers can shop for the deal in store too and can find their nearest store on the Co-op website.
