The latest bowl-centric brand to land in town is Cava, a fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant that is opening its second Michigan location next week in downtown Detroit.

The 3,000-square-foot restaurant with a dining room, digital ordering and carryout will open Sept. 26 at 636 Woodward.

The restaurant, which employs 25-40 people, is part of a wider expansion for the brand, which hopes to bring the company to a total of 1,000 Cava locations nationwide by 2032. The first Michigan location opened in Canton Township in July.

Cava’s concept is health-conscious and highly customizable with a menu that features nearly 40 ingredients for creating grain bowls, salads and pita sandwiches. It also has house-made juices, tea, hummus, vegetarian and vegan options and kids’ menus.

“We were delighted by the way the Canton community embraced our first Michigan restaurant this summer,” chef development officer of Cava Jeff Gaul said in a press release announcing the Detroit store’s opening date. “As we grow across the Midwest, we’re excited to welcome Detroit to our table to experience the bold flavors of our high-quality meals and Mediterranean hospitality while living out our mission to bring heart, health and humanity to food.”

Once open on Sept. 26, Cava’s Detroit hours will be 10:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. daily.
