I remember when covid hit. This beyond meat was the only thing left on the shelves. I am a market manager. We stull carry this stuff but I never have to order until it expires

Probably because it’s more expensive than actual comparable meat (astonishingly). The “steak” tips (first product I googled for the sake of argument) work about to be a little under $11 a pound and they come in a 10 ounce package, and they’re not really aimed at actual vegans and vegetarians as their intended audience. Why would I pay more for less of an inferior product?

Good that they are heading towards bankruptcy, nobody should be eating chemical filled crap like this. I also heard another meat alternative product“Yves” is being discontinued after 40 years. The tides shifting and people are finally waking up and realizing all this shit is horrible for you and are starting to eat actual natural foods.

But what about the cow farts?!?!? Won’t somebody please think about the cow farts?!?!?

I wonder how it compares with Impossible Foods, which might have a slight advantage due to working to get into the restaurant market. It’s hard to tell, though, since Impossible is not publicly traded.

I’m not a vegan or a vegetarian, but I’m educated enough to know that corporate-scale beef agriculture is pretty damn rough on the environment. I don’t mind having an Impossible burger every once in a while, so I can still enjoy a fast food burger while reducing the amount of beef I consume a little bit.

I like it, but the sodium content is pretty high.

I had a feeling they were in trouble when they started rapidly diversifying their offerings. Originally, it was just ground “beef” and though I always preferred Impossible for seeming a lot closer to actual meat, Beyond did a perfectly capable job of it, way better than morningstar or generic frozen black bean patties.

Then all of a sudden it was sausages, breakfast sausages, chicken bites, chicken nuggets, meatballs, and so on. I don’t know if it was a private equity thing but it had that vibe of “too much money dumped in too fast”.

If they’d just stuck to their core competency, and iterated on making it better and better, I have a feeling they’d be in a better position today

It’s one of the few fake meats that I actually like. I wonder what happened?

  8. hereswhatworks

They should stick with frozen patties, which have a much longer shelf life.

  9. sentry_87

When it first came out we tried it at work. Tasted like ass, couldn’t even swallow it. I heard Impossible tasted better.

  10. largos7289

It’s not terrible if it’s seasoned right… I just really liked having an option around lent. Impossible was way better thou. Qdoba had the seasoning down and during lent man that was my go to.

  11. GroovyBoomshtick

All these nasty fake meats were wall st darlings because the profit margins selling ultra processed shitty junk food as a “healthier” or “eco friendly” option seemed like a homerun. Whoops, turns out ultra processed shit is still just shit.

  12. I work at a grocery store and in slower stores it sells fine provided you have frozen space to properly display it.  I used to work at a store where we had a twelve foot bunker full of it we had to do overrides on twice a week to keep it full.

    >This beyond meat was the only thing left on the shelves.

Where I work it was corn beef.  Covid hit right around St. Patrick’s day so a lot of people didn’t buy it be cause they weren’t celebrating it.

  13. Unfair-Shower8488

I agree w you wholeheartedly but it turns out that growing meat in a lab is more expensive than producing meat for real.

  14. Own-Reflection-8182

Impossible was good but I have only little issue with eating real meat. Also, sodium is higher for the meat substitutes so I stopped eating them. I’d rather eat black bean burger if I want veggie burger.

  15. MouseZealousideal219

Probably not the right sub to post this on as it’s called “meat” but here I go lol… I don’t eat meat as I don’t care for the taste and I have a hard time digesting it!

I do not buy any of the “plant based meats” because they taste too much like meat! I find the black bean burgers, falafel burgers things like that… are much more flavourful!

I wonder if this is their downfall, trying too much to taste like meat when the taste and nutritional content aren’t worth it. If people are going to do a meatless days there’s much better options then processed fake meat.

  16. JackFromTexas74

I don’t mind the flavor or texture, but it’s expensive and uses starches and beet juice, so as a diabetic, the added carbs aren’t up my alley.

So I don’t hate this company the way others seem to, but I’m not a paying customer either

  17. pleasedontsmashme

Had an office party barbecue and nobody touched the beyond meat burgers. Ended up taking the whole bag

  18. Virtual-Discipline-1

We have pretty much pulled it all off the shelves where I work. It’s way to expensive even on close out.

  19. ninjabunnyfootfool

I have come to enjoy the occasional bag of Beyond jerky, but it’s just way too pricey

  20. dustinyo_

I don’t really get why people think they have to actively root against meat alternatives because they eat meat. I love meat, but I love lower prices for meat even more. If more people go vegetarian that’s more meat for the rest of us.

  21. LazyOldCat

I want to like it, but the fake smoke taste lingers in your mouth forever, and cooking it straight up stinks.

  22. DaaiTaoFut

I can’t stand the pea protein smell. It’s too much peaness.

  23. cheezer5000

I love meat, I also fucking love a good veggie burger, but this stuff tastes so bad. I do kinda like that praeger brand though, not sure how to spell it

  24. I accidentally ordered one of those “not meat” sandwiches at a restaurant once because they always try to name it something cool. It went back after one bite

  25. NOT-GR8-BOB

Why is this here? It has nothing to do with meat and just seems like a circlejerk.

  26. Sugarmalkavian

I love beyond meat, but I simply can’t afford it right now and I’m guessing a lot of people are in the same boat. They also stopped offering it in a lot of fast food chains that had picked it up for a while.

  27. cornbeeflt

Okay, so I looked it up. Have you seen the prices for their burgers? Its the same fucking price if not more than the beef burgers. Which is at historical low cattle levels and high prices.
The steaks taste like shit no lie. Here is a hint… beef doesn’t taste like steak sauce…

  28. Suspicious_Canary128

Went vegan for a few years when the docs were coming out. Gained 60lbs eating fake meat and pasta

  29. DiscoRabbittTV

Remember when one of their CEO’s tried to eat a guys ear after a bad Arkansas game?

  30. SpicyBeefChowFun

HEB used to have totally free coupons 1 to 1.5 years ago. They were literally tacked to the outside vegan meat freezer door for 2 weeks in a row. They were never “sold out”.

But this forum is about celebrating meat, so mocking vegetarian meat and it’s market value is not really on the agenda here. The original point has been expressed, but the thread has been locked.

Viva la Meat! (or is that an oxymoron? <shrug>)
