The internet, and social media specifically, bring a ton of wild ideas and unique experiences to light, and there’s been no shortage of coverage lately about this cannoli situation and the viral walking cannoli.

Picture it, you’re at a wedding or a function and in rolls a full on ‘create your own cannoli’ station, piping them right before your eyes and customizing this Italian delicacy to your liking, or, better yet, a cannoli connoisseur traveling the room, making them on the go.

Italian Staples: From Pasta to Cannoli

Lauren, the inspiration behind The Cannoli Cart NY, is a local mom of two, and third-generation Italian-American who has been sharing her family recipes with the Hudson Valley in a variety of ways. Sharing homemade pasta and Italian comfort food across the Hudson Valley with her first ‘passion project,’ the Pasta Mama, Lauren realized that their handmade cannoli were beginning to steal the show, and that’s how The Cannoli Cart was created.

Developing her passion for cooking from her mother, Lauren sadly lost her mom when she was only 17-years-old, and these days she not only carries her recipes with her, but shares her mom’s legacy in her work.

I’ve been making my cannoli cream for about three years now, using my mom’s old recipe that I found and brought back to life. I ran a pasta business where I catered events and parties with fresh, homemade pasta. Cannoli started out as a little add-on, something I’d include with the pasta orders. But over time, people began raving about them. They loved that it was homemade, authentic, and so different from the heavy, overly sweet Americanized versions they were used to.

Wanting a fun and memorable way to showcase the cannoli, Lauren’s husband built her the cart pictured below, and now they’re helping the area ‘celebrate life’s sweetest moments.’

Light, fresh, and not made with preservatives, the cannoli that Lauren hand-makes for her events are filled fresh and customizable.

Lauren shared that one of the things that makes her cannoli ‘extra fun’ are the toppings:

Customers love that they can mix it up with crushed Oreo, chopped candy bars, pistachio, coconut, or even cereals like Fruity Pebbles. (Yes, I know it sounds like an Italian sin, but Fruity Pebbles is one of my favorites because it pairs perfectly with the cream!) I also offer drizzles like caramel, raspberry, Nutella, or chocolate, which add a playful twist to a classic dessert. I sometimes run a contest for the coolest cannoli creation at my events! I love watching my guests create fun cannoli with different concoctions.

The Cannoli Cart can be found at all sorts of events from weddings to vendor festivals and fairs, showers, corporate parties, and everything in between. The walking cannoli station brings the desserts right to you as an interactive experience.

The concept is simple but unique: just like when you’re at a baseball game and someone walks around with hot dogs or drinks, I do the same…but with fresh cannoli! Instead of guests having to come to the cart, I bring the experience directly to them on the dance floor, at a backyard party, or during a corporate event where everyone is mingling. I carry everything I need in my tray and pipe each cannoli fresh, right in front of the guests. It always brings so much excitement, and the smiles and reactions are priceless. It’s a one-of-a-kind, interactive service that makes any celebration more fun and memorable.
