His and hers. I pull the shots in the morning while my wife tackles breakfast. She is terrified of the espresso machine, and thinks it will explode if she does something wrong. Anyone’s wife like this too? I think she just says that so I can pull the shots lol.

Wife pulls great shots but doesn’t steam milk as well. Only reason I drink coffee, though, is because she bought the espresso machine. Went from never to every day.

I mean…theres a lot of pressure there no pun i tended. Also I’d be afraod to touch an $$$ espresso machine that someone cared dearly about with all those wants amd knobs if i disnt know what i was doing

  3. As the one that makes the coffee and breakfast, I’m jealous

It wont explode but getting burnt by steam ain’t fun

  5. My wife and I have the same arrangement. She doesn’t ever use scales when cooking, so espresso isn’t her jam. She also doesn’t have the upper body strength to depress the lever 🤣

My mom learned how to make espresso on her own without my help with YouTube tutorials I was so proud.

Be happy that there is something special you can do for your wife everyday. I have special status for being the family barista

My wife loves coffee but never makes it herself. Whenever I travel, she resorts to cold brew because it’s simpler. I made the cold brew too, she can’t be bothered. 🤣

Revel in your sense of purpose*. Because many partners will rob you of it.

*as operator of the exploding machine and provider of the magic coffee juice

I got the espresso machine, and used to make coffee for my wife everyday for like 2 years or so…when I got the roaster, she felt like she had to contribute by brewing the coffee at least 😁 — so she started learning and usually makes me coffee 2-3 days of the week now. I think that’s great…

  11. My wife will accept my shot offerings, but if I’m not around/busy she’ll make her own, wrong. I do a lot of “not saying anything” when I see her using it.

Like others on this thread, I only started 3.5 years ago. My wife has always enjoyed coffee though wasn’t fussy; I assumed barista role with new entry-level espresso machine four years ago machine and it started from there.
I showed her how to pull shots on the Rancilio Silvia and her reaction was ‘I’m happy for you to do it, I can’t be arsed with all of that”
When we went to Rocket R-Cinquantotto I demo’ed and showed it was easier… similar response. She’s happy for me to be barista, it’s my pleasure to do that.

That’s called “weaponized” incompetence and it’s bullshit. I’m the same way with laundry. 🤣🤣🤣

I am the wife. The husband doesn’t care about the espresso machine

We started with a manual press in a vintage La Pavoni. My wife loved it but didn’t pay enough attention to detail to pull good shots (or turn off the boiler for that matter). Now, we have a Bambino Plus and she pulls very serviceable shots and enjoys doing it. It makes me happy that she finds joy in making a daily cappuccino.

It’s a sneaky way of getting out of making coffee themselves.
My gf is especially terrified of the steam wand. I showed her that it’s not really dangerous. But nope…

Then again, if I’m the one that makes the coffee, the smile on her face is priceless. Certainly worth making it in the morning 😜
