Saw this at Grocery Outlet for like 4.99 or something so I had to try it, because i LOVE red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. For reference, Ben and Jerry’s used to have a DELICIOUS red velvet cake ice cream that I haven’t seen in literally forever. So when I saw this, I was super excited because I love VL’s earl grey tea and thought this would be a huge hit. Unfortunately it was a massive disappointment. I guess maybe I took the title and ran with it, because I assumed the ice cream would have actual cake pieces in it. It does not. The ice cream is super bland, with merely a whisper of cocoa taste and it’s an unappetizing pale red color. The “cream cheese swirls” are a joke. They are negligible. They certainly don’t taste like cream cheese. I also think VL’s quality has been going down and the texture of this ice cream was really lacking. Not creamy at all. I still ate the whole thing over the course of a week because I didn’t want to waste it, but honestly the only things I liked about it was that it was cold and sweet (which is a low bar for ice cream. Apologies to those that love it! I certainly did not.
General Rating – 4/10
If anyone remembers the B&J red velvet or can recommend a similar one that has cake and frosting mix-ins, LMK!

Thanks for the review. Well written and fair. To me a RVC flavor is tough to pull off because RVC is tough to pull off. Ample Hills had a good one but it only released around the Oscar show and they don’t ship anymore. There was another company in FL that basically just put a whole arse cake in pints, but they are gone 🙁
Not very helpful unfortunately.
Looks disappointing… sorry it was so bad 🥹 I’ve yet to find a good red velvet flavor… will keep my eyes peeled!
Oh yes I remember buying it last year because I usually love all things red velvet. Just like you, I was massively disappointed. It didn’t just lack red velvet flavor, it just didn’t taste like anything other than sugar.
The red velvet Ben & Jerry’s is my mom’s favorite. Red velvet is my fav flavor period so I’m devastated I might never get to try it. Informative review, I always wondered if this was worth it.
If you have a Cold Stone Creamery near you, snag their red velvet ice cream whenever it’s on the menu. I get that with red velvet cake pieces, Oreos, hot fudge, and cream cheese frosting mixed in… heaven.
They missed a golden opportunity not making it a beautiful red and white color. You know, like actual red velvet cake.
It’s a little tacky to call it French ice cream just because it’s a custard. Most ice creams are custards and the people don’t have to be all niche and say “French ice cream.”
Blue Bell had a decent one, but it’s been gone since Covid
Yes, I was a bit disappointed with this flavor for the same reasons you have stated. I would love to have a Red Velvet ice cream with the cream cheese swirls and cake pieces.
…but you ate it all anyway?
Scraped the sides and everything
Great ice cream but like your can’t even give us a real pint? Like come on.
This is so funny to me, everyone is different.
This is one of my favorite flavors. 🤣🫡
B&J’s rRed Velvet was bomb. I’m going to have to find me some recipes to morph and make my own…
This one actually reminded me of a Wendy’s chocolate frosty. I love a chocolate frosty. I did not love this pint though.
Edit: 14oz container of mediocre ice cream. Not a pint.
