In Konglish, cider is a lemon-lime soda like sprite. In British and Commonwealth English, cider is an alcohol made from apples. In American English, cider is a fermented but non-alcoholic apple juice (and hard cider is alcoholic).

  2. A clear, lemon / lime flavoured soda (yes, non-alcoholic) is called “cider” in both Korea and Japan. If anything, it was the Japanese who called it like that first about a century ago, and Korea went along with it later on.

The reverse happened to me when I travelled to Canada when I was young. A store had “cider” and I thought it was this carbonated non-alcoholic beverage. It was anything but.
