Pleasantly surprised. Paired with Sirloin topped with Rogue River Blue, bacon wrapped asparagus, and baked potatoes stuff with bacon, butter and sour cream. 🔥🔥🔥
Lots of vanilla, slightly leathery, but that’s subtle.
Everything worked together so well. 10/10

Rawson’s Retreat is their lowest tier of wine, or it was 20 years ago. I am very impressed it aged well.
They don’t make a bad wine imo
Rawsons Retreat is entry level Penfolds. Australia has very few age worthy Merlot.
This is incredible.
Honestly, congrats! It’s amazing how some wines can outlast the big boys in the right conditions.
TIL Rawson’s Retreat is Penfolds.
we recently took a gamble on a number of old wines that were up at auction. they had unknown provenance about how they were stored. but some of them were compelling vintages. we ended up buying many cases, at approx 14 bucks a bottle.
of the ~20 ish year old ones, 5 out of 10 are wonderful, 4 out of ten are drinkable, and only one will be a throw away.
So i say go for it, the odds seem to be in your favor
You will need a good cork remover, such as The Durand. all the corks are brittle. and they need to be decanted.
