Anna Zenz from the Moselle was elected the 77th German Wine Queen on Friday evening. The 25-year-old business economist from Ediger-Eller (Cochem-Zell district), who works in her parents’ winery, prevailed in the final against four female competitors and one male competitor. She impressed the jury and the audience with her professional competence, confident demeanor, and clear argumentation. This is the 13th title win for the Moselle in the history of the election.
Katja Simon (Hessian Bergstraße) and Emma Meinhardt (Saale-Unstrut) were elected as German Wine Princesses. Together, they will form the new trio of majesties for one year. For the first time, a man, Levin McKenzie from Rheinhessen, was in the final of the election. He would have been the first German Wine King or Wine Prince, but he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In spring, the DWI announced that the competition will be gender-neutral in the future.
“As the German Wine Queen, I want to appeal more to the younger target group and represent the smaller growing regions more strongly,” explained Anna Zenz after the election.
The final included a blind wine tasting with wines from eight growing regions, as well as team tasks and a speech. The decision was made by a jury of around 70 experts together with the audience.
In the coming year, the wine majesties will undertake around 200 appearances in Germany and abroad on behalf of the German Wine Institute. They will represent German wines at trade and public events as well as at international appointments.
